There is a slight chance that Veron could yet face criminal charges and the police are investigating the entire passport scandal which has rocked Italian football. However Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti insists the price for Veron remains set at 75 billion lira, which is 23.5m. This would smash the British record transfer fee of 19m which United have agreed to pay PSV Eindhoven for Ruud van Nistelrooy.
THE Copa America has been suspended until kidnapped tournament co-ordinator Hernan Campuzano is released from captivity.
Nicholas Delfino, president of the Peruvian Football Association, revealed the tournament will only go ahead if Campuzano, who was abducted on Monday near the town of Pereira in Colombia where the Copa is due to kick off on July 11, is freed. He said: "The opinion of the South America Football Confederation (CSF) is to suspend the championship in Colombia until they free the director who at this moment is kidnapped. We cannot go to a place where the vice-president of the Federation has been kidnapped."
LAZIO president Sergio Cragnotti has confirmed that the club are to make a move for Rivaldo. The Barcelona playmaker has previously stated he will see out his current contract in Spain, which still has one year to run.
It is also likely, though, that former World Footballer of the Year would be tempted to end his spell at the Nou Camp early.
Cragnotti said: "We have wanted Rivaldo for a long time and we hope that this time we will be successful."
RUSSELL LATAPY claims he will become a Rangers player before the start of the new season. The 32-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international was thought to be joining Celtic on a free transfer but now says he expects to complete a move to their Old Firm rivals.
He said: ''I'm looking forward to the new season and getting the chance to play in the Champions League. That was an important factor in my decision but my personal goal will be to help Rangers win the domestic title.''
